July started off with a couple of bangs–We took a 4th of July trip to Carmel and a Bastille Day contest celebrated the month of Independence. But like most bloggers, I noticed the traffic slip away as people give in to the heat of lethargy or take off for vacation.
We will survive August, and celebrate women travel writers, among other things, and then in September you have a two real treats coming your way–a big Giveaway with an Italian theme, AND many new voices for you to read–guest bloggers all month. Would you like to be a blogger for the day at A Traveler’s Library? Contact me at vmb@atravelerslibrary.com and we’ll talk.
Most popular posts this month:
1. 10 Things To Love About American Travel (This was by far the favorite–and if you missed it, you might want to take a look.)
2. The Perfect French Movie? Not only did a lot of people read this post, but everybody wanted to get their two cents in and I compiled a long list of French movies that I must see. (Just finished Something’s Gotta Give, which has only one scene in Paris, but it has Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson, so who can resist?)
3 and 4. Two Author Interviews came next: Susan Van Allen, who wrote 100Places in Italy Every Woman Should Go; and Jane Eppinga who has a new guide out to two old Arizona towns, Tombstone and Bisbee.
Other than that, nobody was terribly excited about anything, although I do think that we discussed an important classic guidebook to Istanbul, that deserves a look, and an important “unknown” American writer, Donald Harington whose book about Arkansas impressed me.
Readers who keep the conversation going
Lots of new readers showed up in the comments section last month, and I hope they’ll stick around.

Many other sites sent traffic our way, a few at a time–that’s all it takes. THANKS! And thank you readers for sticking around through the sticky days of summer.
I love the end-of-summer picture up there at the top. Borrowed it from a talented photographer on Flickr, with Creative Commons license. You can click on the photo and see more.
So how are you surviving the dregs of summer? Traveling? Reading? Both? Please share.

there’s always music, of course. and tea, both hot and iced.
I recently did a post called music and late summer which included a video of Scottish musician Emily Smith’s fine song about a summer evening, Sunset Hymn — you might like to check that out for a refreshing summer breeze: http://tinyurl.com/26ldavn

I’m so glad you mentioned that post, Kerry. I actually was thinking about it as I wrote, and thought that I had included it. Perfect fit.

Thanks for your comment, Ian, but I have deleted your commercial website address. That’s a no-no here.
