Here’s a brief version of our monthly run-down of popular stuff and the people who contributed to A Traveler’s Library in June. Movies and mysteries dominate the head of the list.
Thanks to guest writer Margo Milllure of Travel Belles, who wrote about a South Carolina mystery by Dorothea Benton Franks.
Your Favorites
Readers continued to favor road trip books, and last month’s October Sky (West Virginia) drew lots of readers in June, as well.
- But for new entries, the most popular proved to be a movie, Departures, about an unusual profession in Japan.
- Next came the Edgar Winning mystery novel that represented North Carolina.
- Then another mystery, this one comic, set in Florida.
- The novel Writing Jane Austen did not thrill me, but you liked to read about it, anyhow.
- Lagging somewhat behind these came a round up of Internet sites about travel books
- And the second installment of Trip Planning for France.
People Who Comment
Just weren’t feeling as chatty as usual in June, were you? Numbers 3 and 6 above, plus Tom Wolfe’s A Man in Full drew the most comments from readers.
Chattiest: Connie Ong (Anjuli) We have been missing Connie. We learned from Facebook that she’s been ill and she promises to be back with her own blog and commenting away in the near future. Take Care, Connie!
Others with five or more comments:
- Richard Mussler- Wright
- Dr. Jessie Voigts from Wandering Educators
- Mark Heers of Travel Wonders of the World
- Alexandria of Chez Sven
- and Colleen of Slow Travel
Thanks very much to the faithful band who contribute so much to A Traveler’s Library. We’re always happy to welcome new readers and there were many of those this past month.

I’m traveling in July … to Monterey next weekend to finally hear the bagpiper at Pebble Beach, and to Kokomo, Indiana – for work! I read Anthony Bourdain’s “Medium Raw” over this holiday weekend, which is sort of a travel book.
Hi – recently got out of surgery, so my traveling is slowed down for a bit. Did finished Tahir Shar’s “Beyond the Devil’s Teeth” and now working on McMurtry’s second memoir. So many books so little time. -r

Glad to hear Departures did so well! Well, I have another suggestion. Cherry Blossoms. That will take you both to Germany and Japan. The first half, well, you have to slog through it a bit, but the second half is fascinating. Really a good movie. I highly recommend it. We had it on Netflix, and my brother took it home after a visit. They really enjoyed it, too.

Just finished Tahir Shah’s Beyond the Devil’s Teeth! The book is in three sections: India, Africa, and South America. I enjoyed the first section the most! By the time he gets to the third section he sort of runs out of energy.Thought to share. -r

Our road trip travels continue to draw quite a few readers over at Music Road, as well. Tennessee, New York City, Florida, and Alabama seem to be of great interest lately.
