I thought it was so sad at the beginning but it really was a wonderful movie. I didn’t feel it discouraged travel.

Well, if it had you in tears, I guess that confirms it was gloomy. As I said, I’m just hard-hearted, or maybe child-like–and wanted to get on with the adventure.

Gloomy start!? The first 15 minutes of UP basically had me in tears! It was such a touching downer, I couldn’t believe they started a children’s film in such a way. Although, I guess children’s films these day are meant to appeal to parents as well. Especially the high budget animations (thank you, Antz!)

I was very excited about it during the first part, but then it just went down hill from there, trading much of the emotional intensity for cheap chase scenes etc…

I don’t remember if it inspires travel.
I can’t think of another film with a shorter title, but I can think of “A.I” which is at least comparable in length. I guess the film would have to be named “I” or some other creative play on letters.

we haven’t seen this yet – the commercials sort of drove me crazy. interesting take on travel, though. we’ll have to check it out!
