The 3rd book to be given away (announcement of winner on August 19):
Destination: Cuba
Book: Monkey Hunting by Christine Garcia
I bought this book new and read it myself. No marks. Like New. This is a beautifully written story of a little known part of Cuban history–the Chinese who were brought to Cuba as slaves. We discussed this book way back in January–when people’s minds were still on the question of bi-racial people’s self identification, and I found this book to parallel that discussion with its descendents of Chinese, Spanish, African forebears. I called the article “Cuban African Chinese Which Box Do I Check?”
The 2nd Book was Crowded Heart.
The 1st Book was Jack Ruby’s Sink.
Feel free to tell me about ANY book you would like to win (as long as it has been discussed at A Traveler’s Library), not just those that have been announced.
